Student Leadership Team

Hi, I’m Riya Patel, a Computing Science undergraduate student at the University of Alberta and the current President of AIMSS. Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of serving as VP Education for AIMSS, organizing events in other clubs as well, and contributing to research in AI in oral healthcare. These experiences have shown me both the exciting potential of medical AI and the gaps in accessibility and involvement, especially for undergraduates. As President, I plan to focus on making AIMSS’s initiatives more inclusive, collaborative, and impactful. This includes launching beginner-friendly course materials and workshops, building stronger student - researcher connections, and creating more spaces where students from all backgrounds can explore, contribute to, and shape the future of AI in medicine. I’m excited to continue growing our community and helping AIMSS become a leading force for innovation, education, and opportunity in this space!

I'm an incoming second-year medical student in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. I am fascinated by the growing integration of AI into clinical practice and am particularly interested in how emerging AI tools can enhance healthcare education, improve the patient experience, and drive better health outcomes. As Treasurer, my focus will be on maintaining the fiscal sustainability of AIMSS while actively pursuing new funding opportunities to support student-led initiatives in AI and medicine.
In my new role, I'll promote practical research projects to improve healthcare outcomes. I'll also establish connections between upcoming research endeavors, leveraging knowledge management principles to form networks of knowledge for our executive and fundamental purposes. By emphasizing execution, we'll maintain our vibrant reputation in AI.
