About the Event
As the field of AI ages and more data is collected, the computational requirement for analysis will only increase. But do not despair! Cloud Computing (CC) allows users to take advantage of powerful remote servers so the user is not constrained by the processing speed and RAM of their local machine. In this workshop, you will be introduced to Google Colab, which is a browser-based Python notebook environment that not only provides an easy-to-use interface, but also runs all scripts on Google servers for free. We will start with a brief introduction to the subject (including Python, the notebook development environment, and cloud computing), then dive into a follow-along example of connecting Colab to your GDrive and implementing a simple ML model. The future of computing is cloud computing!
Requirements: A Google account with a Google Drive (preferably through uAlberta, as uAlberta GDrives have unlimited storage)
Prerequisites: Attendees do not need any prior technical skills to participate, although how useful each person will find this workshop is proportional to their desire to navigate/use Python for machine learning.
